Tutorial for

Community Builder Profile Pro version 2.0.x

Demonstration of CB Profile Pro v2.0 / How to use tutorial

Get Adobe Flash player

After we have installed Community Builder Profile Pro on our site we can start using it.

Note: when we replace file default.php with the one in the package we see a blank page with "No profile page specified" text when click on Community Builder user profile. It's OK.

There is a link to Community Builder Profile Pro component in the components menu in backend.

First of all, let's check and specify parameters.

  1. The first one is whether a user can choose his profile type. If yes, users of frontend will be able to choose between created published profiles, otherwise, they all will have the default profile assigned.
  2. Second parameter is to show or not the profile title when viewing profile.
  3. Third is whether 'powered by cb profile pro' will be shown at the bottom of profile.
  4. Parameter 'assigned profile template' is for the following: if you select 'for all viewed profiles' - then community builder template that is assigned to user profile will be used for this user on all other profiles of the site; if 'for user profile only' is selected - community builder template that is assigned to user profile will be used when this profile is viewed only and thus community builder templates will change on each different profile.
  5. Parameter number five lets you choose whether profiles created by users in frontend could be used by other users of the site.

Click save to save the parameters.

Now, after we specified the parameters, let's start creating the first profile. Let's create an example profile in demonstration and instruction purposes.

We click the button 'New', type the title of the profile, specify whether it is published or not. Then choose community builder template for this profile.

If 'by cb default' is left, then no template will be assigned, the default template chosen in community builder configuration will be used.

Note: fields 'created date', 'created by', 'modified date' and 'modified by' shouldn't be touched, they will be filled automatically. The 'Default' profile can be set on the list of profiles page only - we'll do this later.

Now let's fill our profile with content. Lets create 3 pages on profile. 1st with user information, 2nd with additional information, 3rd with contact member form. We have to specify title for each page in case we want to have several pages on profile, otherwise leave page title fields untouched.

Let's insert a Community Builder field into the profile. To do this click on the Magic Window button, in the appeared window open Insert CB Field tab, select the desired field from the list of Community Builder fields, set additional parameters and click insert button.

Note: in order a field to appear on profile it must be published, be visible on profile and the tab to which it is assigned must be published in Community Builder.

To create a second page click 'add new page' button, specify the title for the page and fill its contents. The second page will show the address, phone, website and some other information about the member.

Now lets make page 3. In this case we'll insert a Community Builder tab with contact member form. You can see that with CB Profile Pro it is very easy. We can not only insert a one Community Builder tab, but all tabs within tab position.

Now let's see what we get on profile in frontend. But before we need to set a default profile, otherwise the page will stay blank.

Default profile is used for all users if parameter 'User can choose profile' is set to No. And if 'User can choose profile' parameter is set to Yes, it is be used for users who hadn't selected profile type.

Next let's create a custom edit profile page. Click 'add edit profile page' button and fill textarea with content. Let's add some fields: username, e-mail, name, password, phone, website. Let's see what we get.

Note: in order a field to appear on edit profile page it and the tab to which it is assigned must be published in Community Builder.

Next let's create a custom registration page. To do this click 'add registration page' button and add content to the textarea. Let's add username, e-mail, name, password fields.

The registration page of the default profile is used on site's registration page. Note: in order a field to appear on registration it must be published, be visible on registration and the tab to which it is assigned must be published in Community Builder.

One more thing you should remember about edit profile and registration pages is that if they are not specified in the profile (textareas are empty), standard Community Builder edit profile and registration pages are used.

Now you may ask how can users choose profile. It is very simple.

There is a field with title Profile Type, that was created automatically when installing CB Profile Pro. It handles the list of all profiles created in Community Builder Profile Pro.

Publish it to users and they will be able to choose profile type.
